High School Of The Dead; My Take
Handsome guys, sexy girls, sexy zombies, gruesome chopping and a storyline is given to you with grace in this anime. Like the name implies, you get zombies in a high school, but that’s not where it ends. Turns out the pandemic has spread all over (think apocalypse only this is zombified rather than atomic). Highschool Of The Dead (H.O.T.D for short) is about the survival of Takashi Komuro, a student of Fujimi High after his school is overrun with zombies, and his efforts to stick with his friends as they try to find their family members and still retain their morals. How far do their efforts take them on a scale?
What I Loved
The first thing I fell in love with was The Soundtrack, more specifically the opening theme. The song has a certain feel to it, the type that gets you excited over what’s to come… and if you’re one that adores rock music, this will appeal to you even more. What’s even better, each episode ends with a different song, and you could just listen to them while you watch as the credits roll to an end to reveal the remaining part of the episode before the next episode’s preview.
Another thing I loved was the well detailed art. Sure it’s not as smooth as what Xam’d or Star Driver would offer, but still it’s good enough for you to appreciate it’s specs. And while there are some parts (actually I think this would apply to almost everything) that has different views which can be categorized under the NSFW (Not Safe For Work) section, it’s still pretty appealing.
What I Liked
The Characters. I didn’t get that much of a feel for them, but they’re interwoven predicaments and the fact that they all had to stick together despite arrogance, stupidity, selfishness and selflessness earned my respect and interest.
The Story also got my liking. Quite frankly I’ve seen, heard and read lots of zombie stories you might think it’s a part of fiction that has been over milked. This however, offered something somewhat different. High school people who start facing death right from school hours.
What I Didn’t Like
As ironic as the fact that I’m a guy and getting to see some chic expose a bit would delight me, the constant upskirt shots in these anime wore out their value on me rather early. It’s like any single chance the artists or producers had they gave an upskirt. I might get a brief camel toe at one and nothing the rest of the way, but continuously seeing undies with green and white/blue and white/stars or something designs in almost every scene got me wanting the scene to be over with. At a point I got to thinking that a zombie would actually rape someone that was being viciously chewed on.
Now that part is out, another thing I didn’t like were The Characters. Yes, I liked and also disliked them. Why? The fact that they were at some points annoyingly confused and also stupid in other parts didn’t get the humour part of me. Not to mention the fact that at some points they deemed it right to act like dummies…
What I Hated
The Story… unfortunately. I might be confusing you with this but I’m being honest. I began to hate the story later on in the series. As much as I liked it right from start, I couldn’t wait for episodes to be released I went ahead to check out the manga. Might have been a bad move, but in most cases this isn’t. In this case, it somewhat was… At a point the anime strayed off point (this didn’t get me though, it’ normal for such to happen), but at some point it seemed the team behind the anime decided to waste precious time on irrelevant events and make the story a stale drama in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. And don’t even get me started on the ridiculous ending…
Verdict?
I don’t regret watching this. In fact, I’m actually happy I got the chance to watch something filled with nice quality as this. With 12 episodes in it’s bag, it’s decent enough to have some replay value. If you’re looking for something fun, this is for you. If you’re looking for something worthwhile, also for you. Looking for something compelling, I wouldn’t really advice this for you… unless you’re an ecchi lover and don’t mind the zombies showing you some skin for play.
Relax and Laugh
This Saturday had it’s fun for me. Fun, and lots of walking. Nice pictures too you know, to capture the memories. I don’t really take pictures, but this time I just had to take.. fun day. While the fun has ended, we await tomorrow… actually I’m waiting for December. How was your day? Ponder and that as you relax and laugh at these pictures…(one is Naruto related so if don’t quite get it… maybe you should go ahead and watch it =] )
The second and third comic strips are from Cyanide and Happiness… sorry couldn’t help it. They’re awesome comics
Trailer Spotlight: Source Code
Since our resident overlord Mr. Dancing Silhouettes has elected me the “trailer Guy”, I feel I must live up to that name and provide you guys with trailers for the latest movies and tv shows. One recent movie trailer that really caught my eye was this one (Below)
Its for a an upcoming movie called Source Code. Its a mixture of science fiction and action. I’m really loving the concept.
the story is as follows….
” A soldier becomes part of an experimental government program that is investigating a train bombing in an attempt to prevent a future bombing from occurring. The soldier, Captain Coulter Stevens, is sent into the body of Sean Fentress, a civilian aboard the train, in the last eight minutes of his life. He is forced to relive the incident over and over again until he can find out who is responsible and how to prevent the next terrorist attack from occurring. During the process, it is discovered that whatever changes he makes do not affect the overall time line of reality, allowing each trip to be different without risking damage to the real world. Despite this, Captain Stevens starts a series of attempts to stop the bombing during his trips, and ultimately seeks to change the future in the process. In his final trips, Captain Stevens begins to suspect that he — or more specifically Sean (whose body he inhabits) — is the bomber.”
I dont know about you, but I’m highly intrigued! This movie has the potential to be awesome and it makes me even more excited for 2011.
Will this be the Inception of 2011? who knows either way it looks like we have a great year ahead for movies.
Hawaii Five-0
I’m really enjoying the new Hawaii Five-o Tv show. The story lines are entertaining and easy to get into, the characters are unique and interesting, with some very funny dialog between them. The bets aspect of this show though is the action. all I can say is LORD HAVE MERCY! this is some hardcore shit! who knew shit like this goes down in hawaii! this show is fucking awesome
what is this show about though? well…
“The series covers the actions of a small special police unit created by the governor of Hawai’i to investigate serious crimes on the islands. The team is headed by Steve McGarrett as it investigates crimes ranging from terrorism to kidnapping. McGarrett is assigned a partner, Detective Danny Williams, who has recently transferred from New Jersey. He fills out the team by selecting a friend from high school, Chin Ho Kelly, and Chin’s cousin, a rookie cop nicknamed Kono.
Each episode begins with a crime or a body, followed by the assignment to the crime by the unit by either the governor herself or her representative. The task force uses the authority of the governor’s office to gain access to crime scenes and investigations involving the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) when they cross paths.”
The action in this show is awesome. The main characters are commando’s and they dont waste time when it comes to taking down the bad guy. I could keep talkign about this show, but I think I’ll let it speak for itself
Video preview Below
Hawaii five-0 is pretty much most things I ask for in a show, action, drama, comedy, decent story lines and characters I care about. Its a fun, witty and highly explosive show. It also helps that the shows executive producers are Alex Krutzman and Robert Orci, who have worked on such shows as Lost and Fringe, movies such as Cloverfield and were the writers of the 2009 Star Trek movie and Transformers 1.
This show is definitely worth watching!

Music Spotlight: Jah-Bless – Joor oh (remix)
I dont even know where to start
Naija artist Jah-bless released a remix of his 2009 hit “joor oh”, this time featuring some of the biggest and hottest naija rappers right now. The song features Ice Prince, Eldee, Ruggedman, Durella and reminisce. The lyrics are very witty and funny. The song that distinct naija humor to it. All in all the song is very much ridiculously awesome
The question now, is this song worthy of naija collaboration of the year? I was going to give it to DJ Neptune, MI, Naeto C and Dagrin for their song 123 hip hop remix or to Dotstar, Ice Prince, Omo Akin, Jesse Jagz and shadow d’don for their smash hit “Ta Lo So Be”.
They are all great songs though. Naija music is really hot right now and there are no signs of it cooling down
JOOR OH!
you can watch the video for the song above

The World God Only Knows: FIRST IMPRESSIONS
One thing I love about Asians (mostly Chinese) is their ability to take a product and warp it into something else. That ingenuity comes into play in The World God Only Knows in the form of a PFP. From the format of that abbreviation, I’m very sure you’ve deduced that it’s modeled after a PSP. What makes this one even cooler than a PSP (in appearance at least) is the fact that it has it’s own keyboard that slides down.. not sure if it slides from behind or from the insides; can’t really tell. Also, I can’t say if it’s QWERTY, but if there was a device like the PFP, I bet it’d come with QWERTY and not some gibberish format I’ve seen on some phones.
The World God Only Knows follows a seventeen year old high school student, Keima Katsuragi, who’s an avid gamer… but only plays dating sims games. He’s known online as the God of Conquest because, let’s face it, he’s the best at what he does. And that’s getting the hearts of game girls (those in the dating sims). Why’s this? Well, he considers life a crappy game (who doesn’t?) and has no interest for girls in real life. Can’t reall blame him on that one there… Either way, he gets a message challenging him to win more hearts. Being the God of Conquest, he accepts it, then gets a demon from hell called Elsie appear before him. She tells him the challenge he accepted requires him to get loose souls, souls that ran away (so to speak) from hell. He tries to decline, but is bound in the neck by a bracelet… and so is Elsie. If they fail, they get beheaded… so going with the obvious choice he accepts. Then to his bewilderment, he learns that the loose souls are inhabiting the hearts of girls, and in order to get the souls he has to literally make the girl(s) fall in love with him so he can fill up the space the loose soul is harboring..
Phew, so much speech there right? Sorry, no choice. This anime is currently in it’s 7th episode, so I wouldn’t really call this first impressions… still the first time I set my eyes on it, I fell in love with it. It’s a really good anime, nice animations, lots of humour, and if you’re looking for that break from all the bashing and magic zapping, then this is a good contender for that position. One thing I’m not really happy with is the fact that all Keima plays are dating sims, so we might never know the full power of the PFP (bummer yeah?)
Manglobe is the company responsible for this awesome anime adaptation from the manga by Tamiki Wakaki. No affiliations with either whatsoever
