Trailer Spotlight: Vanishing on 7th street

Yet another trailer for an upcoming movie.

The movie is called Vanishing on 7th Street.

what is the film about you might ask? well….

” A mysterious, seemingly global blackout causes countless populations to simply vanish, leaving only their clothes and possessions behind. A small handful of survivors band together in a dimly-lit tavern on 7th Street, struggling to combat the apocalyptic horror. Realizing they may in fact be the last people on earth, the darkness hones in on them alone.”

Sounds intriguing, and the trailer looks nice. The movie starts Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywaler form the star wars movies) and is set to be in theaters by February 18th.

High School Of The Dead; My Take

Handsome guys, sexy girls, sexy zombies, gruesome chopping and a storyline is given to you with grace in this anime. Like the name implies, you get zombies in a high school, but that’s not where it ends. Turns out the pandemic has spread all over (think apocalypse only this is zombified rather than atomic). Highschool Of The Dead (H.O.T.D for short) is about the survival of Takashi Komuro, a student of Fujimi High after his school is overrun with zombies, and his efforts to stick with his friends as they try to find their family members and still retain their morals. How far do their efforts take them on a scale?

What I Loved
The first thing I fell in love with was The Soundtrack, more specifically the opening theme. The song has a certain feel to it, the type that gets you excited over what’s to come… and if you’re one that adores rock music, this will appeal to you even more. What’s even better, each episode ends with a different song, and you could just listen to them while you watch as the credits roll to an end to reveal the remaining part of the episode before the next episode’s preview.
Another thing I loved was the well detailed art. Sure it’s not as smooth as what Xam’d or Star Driver would offer, but still it’s good enough for you to appreciate it’s specs. And while there are some parts (actually I think this would apply to almost everything) that has different views which can be categorized under the NSFW (Not Safe For Work) section, it’s still pretty appealing.

What I Liked
The Characters. I didn’t get that much of a feel for them, but they’re interwoven predicaments and the fact that they all had to stick together despite arrogance, stupidity, selfishness and selflessness earned my respect and interest.
The Story also got my liking. Quite frankly I’ve seen, heard and read lots of zombie stories you might think it’s a part of fiction that has been over milked. This however, offered something somewhat different. High school people who start facing death right from school hours.

What I Didn’t Like
As ironic as the fact that I’m a guy and getting to see some chic expose a bit would delight me, the constant upskirt shots in these anime wore out their value on me rather early. It’s like any single chance the artists or producers had they gave an upskirt. I might get a brief camel toe at one and nothing the rest of the way, but continuously seeing undies with green and white/blue and white/stars or something designs in almost every scene got me wanting the scene to be over with. At a point I got to thinking that a zombie would actually rape someone that was being viciously chewed on.
Now that part is out, another thing I didn’t like were The Characters. Yes, I liked and also disliked them. Why? The fact that they were at some points annoyingly confused and also stupid in other parts didn’t get the humour part of me. Not to mention the fact that at some points they deemed it right to act like dummies…

What I Hated
The Story… unfortunately. I might be confusing you with this but I’m being honest. I began to hate the story later on in the series. As much as I liked it right from start, I couldn’t wait for episodes to be released I went ahead to check out the manga. Might have been a bad move, but in most cases this isn’t. In this case, it somewhat was… At a point the anime strayed off point (this didn’t get me though, it’ normal for such to happen), but at some point it seemed the team behind the anime decided to waste precious time on irrelevant events and make the story a stale drama in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. And don’t even get me started on the ridiculous ending…

Verdict?
I don’t regret watching this. In fact, I’m actually happy I got the chance to watch something filled with nice quality as this. With 12 episodes in it’s bag, it’s decent enough to have some replay value. If you’re looking for something fun, this is for you. If you’re looking for something worthwhile, also for you. Looking for something compelling, I wouldn’t really advice this for you… unless you’re an ecchi lover and don’t mind the zombies showing you some skin for play.
