Phylix’s Top 25; Number 5

Time is money, and money is power, but not might. And while that may be true, this has nothing to do with my post. We are twisting our top 5 songs, and making them into individual posts… but of course you knew that, Detanfy usually alerts you people about such, if our Overlord is too busy doing so (he better not see this).

We have been busy, Detanfy with projects, me with preparations for my journey. Well, I don’t think I should bore with this right now, I’ll do that later when my journey begins. In the meantime, you enjoy (or despise) my number 5 song on my list, which didn’t get here by chance but by virtue…

‘Two hands! I wanna play the piano with two hands!’
This is the first single out of The Ting Tings second album, which hasn’t been given a name as of yet. It’s a sort of faced based 80’s style indie pop song, which is identical to how their previous songs are. And you have to admit, they do the 80’s part really well.
The Ting Tings is comprised Katie White and Jules De Martino,

Katie’s a sexy British singer from the group TKO, who’s father got Jules De Martino to write songs for the group. They then both formed the group The Ting Tings in December 2007.
Should I put a bit of her history? Well, considering this is Top 5 I guess it’s somewhat customary.
Katie was raised on a farm in Lowtown, in Great Manchester with her father and mother. She went to Lowtown High School, and at the age of 12 her grandfather won 6.6million pounds in the National Lottery, giving 1million each to his three sons; which Katie’s father David White used to start a music management company.

Her first group, being all girls was called TKO, short for Total Knock Out. She started her music career at the age of 14 with 2 of her friends from Lowtown High, Joanne Leeton and Emma Lally, they never got a record deal but succeeded in releasing a single on the internet.
Then she was in ‘Dear Eskiimo’ (with the 2 I’s to stand out) with Jules and a friend; Simon Templeman. They eventually split and we were given The Ting Tings later on

Look at that and tell me that ain’t pretty. She handles most of the vocals, and guitars… rock on.

Jules De Martino (thought I’d skip him?) was born in Albert Place, East London and was raised in Kirkby Stephen, a little market town located in Cumbria… North West England. He began playing drums at the age of 13, which is pretty neat.
Band/group involvements include Babakoto (named after a lemur in Australia), Mojo Pin, TKO and of course our very own The Ting Tings.

He handles mostly the drums, and does some vocals too.

Maybe I should focus on the song now yes? Okay then. Hands is basically a song about well… hands. Raising your hands in the air, that kind of party thing. But this isn’t just worthless hand raising, this is for breaks and stress relief. It’s about hard-working people relaxing and raising their hands to dance and leave the issue of working behind for a bit… the kind of song I should be listening to when things want to get worked up right? True that.
It’s indie pop, and if Death Cab For Cutie have thought me one thing, it’s that I should never underestimate the impact anything indie can place; and thanks to that, I’m happily enjoying this song.

There isn’t much to talk about on this song, except that’s it one for all to enjoy in their leisure.

This is my number 5, and as an honourable act, I leave you with the video below…
